SQUARE OF THE FALLEN FOR FREEDOM
CONSTRUCTION OF A SQUARE
Location: Cascina, Pisa
The intervention in question consists of the project for the new Cascina square, whose construction also involves the construction of a retaining wall.
The intervention is located in the municipality of Cascina (PI), in a morphologically flat area inserted within an urbanized and built area of historical character in the historic center of Cascina; this area is classified as seismic, with a degree of seismicity S = 9.
The wall in question is made in three sections arranged at 90 ° to form three sides of a rectangle with sides 25 x 17 m. The intervention is necessary to contain the ground that constitutes the floor of the square which is raised with respect to the road level behind it by about 1.70 m.
The same intervention involves the construction of a reinforced concrete staircase that acts as a link between the raised square and the pedestrian road behind it and walls used for seating and fountains.
