Project team:

3. Giuseppe Pierini (Consultant)
Location: Volterra, Pisa
The project, developed in 2006 for a competition of ideas that concerned the city of Volterra, is based on a careful examination of the system of both car and pedestrian mobility, in order to make the entire area of the E. Fiumi park, including the `archaeological area and the area to the south in front of the walls, currently home to the refreshment point, easily accessible and usable even by the disabled.
In reality, during the conception of the project, it seemed natural to extend the ease of access to the park from the entire urban mobility system by designing two entry points accessible by car equipped with parking spaces reserved for the disabled and a further entrance accessible by foot from the city center, near the Ornanni alley.
Thus, an attempt was made to insert, in a more organic and natural way, the area of the E. Fiumi park in the cultural circuit of Volterra, providing and promoting a direct, easily accessible connection with the center and with the Mario Guarnacci Museum. Here the exhibition of the archaeological materials found in the area highlights, emblematically, the historical memory of the entire area and contributes to enhancing, synergistically, its historical significance.
